Nightshift is a free app that helps astronomers of all levels find optimal nights for stargazing and stay informed about celestial events. With Nightshift's stargazing weather forecast, users can easily see the darkness and cloud cover forecast for any location in the world. This enables them to find the best observing opportunities for the night. A convenient twilight diagram provides a quick overview of darkness, weather, and observing conditions for any given night. Users can also receive notifications when conditions are favorable for their preferred observing locations.

The sky view feature allows users to explore the night sky and observe planets, deep-sky objects, and celestial events at the optimal time. The ability to zoom in to discover faint objects and activate telrad circles for creating finder charts makes locating favorite targets with telescopes easier than ever.

Nightshift ensures users never miss out on highlights in the night sky. The app provides information on astronomy events, visible planets, active meteor showers, noctilucent clouds, moon phases, oppositions, elongations, lunar eclipses, and rise and set times all from the app's dashboard.

The app also provides information on moon phases and lunar eclipses, including the current phase of the Moon and the exact time and date of upcoming full moon, new moon, first quarter, and last quarter. Nightshift helps users plan the best moments for lunar observation and prevent moonlight from disturbing deep-sky observing sessions. Additionally, Nightshift includes a comprehensive calendar of partial and total lunar eclipses from 1801 to 2200. The app even offers location-specific advice on the visibility of a blood moon from users' favorite stargazing spots.

Nightshift makes it easy to locate visible planets in the night sky. The app displays all visible planets for the night and the constellations they can be found in. The event calendar provides accurate information on upcoming oppositions of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune so users can plan their planetary observing sessions. Nightshift also indicates the moment of greatest elongation for Venus and Mercury to determine the best morning and evening visibility of the inner planets. Twilight diagrams are available for all planets, providing optimal observation opportunities and suggestions for telescopes needed.

Included with Nightshift is a large database of over 15,000 deep-sky objects. This includes the complete Messier, Caldwell, NGC, and IC catalogues. The app features a darkness and clear sky diagram that indicates when conditions are favorable for observing galaxies, globular clusters, nebulae, and other wonders of deep space.

Nightshift provides comprehensive information on all celestial objects, including classification, brightness, angular size, distance, and cross-references with other astronomy catalogues.

The app's state-of-the-art algorithms can predict if celestial objects are visible with users' equipment. The visibility calculator determines if favorite planets, galaxies, or other heavenly bodies are within reach of users' telescopes, binoculars, or the naked eye.
